Introduction
Each generation of the Galaxy S series seems to bring a slight improvement, incorporating new features and borrowing a few tricks from the iPhone. After more than a month of using the Galaxy S24 Ultra as my main device, I can confidently say that it’s a highly recommendable Android phone. Many people ask me whether they should upgrade to the S24 Ultra, and my answer is consistently affirmative.

SAMSUNG Galaxy S24 Ultra Cell Phone
Design and Build
The S24 Ultra hasn’t changed much from the S23 Ultra, except for its flat screen and material enhancements. This year’s top model in the S24 series has shifted to a titanium frame combined with an aluminum chassis, giving a more premium feel, albeit not lighter. Compared to the iPhone, its finish is rougher and textured but aesthetically pleasing, especially in the titanium black version I chose. This year, I stuck with the 256GB model, but Samsung has standardized 12GB of RAM across all versions, eliminating any disparities.
Handling and Feel
The device is still quite large, and I’m primarily a user of smaller phones. If Samsung made a similar device in a smaller size, like the iPhone 15 Pro, it would be perfect. The S24 Ultra’s flat, square design is visually appealing, though the sharp corners can be uncomfortable when held. Its size and the positioning of the volume buttons on the right make it challenging for left-handed users like me, despite the functionality of the buttons for answering calls and controlling the ringtone.
Display Quality
Samsung’s display remains outstanding in the smartphone world, now transitioning to a flat panel with an added anti-glare layer that I find very appealing. It excellently prevents light reflection, enhancing the viewing experience. Initially, the S24 Ultra had a bug where the Vivid mode didn’t differ from the standard, but this was quickly fixed. One UI 6.1 introduces an adaptive tone setting, similar to iPhone’s True Tone, adjusting the screen’s color temperature based on ambient light for a consistent viewing experience.
AI Features
The pre-installed One UI 6.1 brings several adjustments and AI features, enhancing the lock screen customization with options to add widgets like weather and UV index. Like the iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra dims the lock screen wallpaper when Always On Display is active, allowing visibility without brightness. The AI-generated wallpaper I’m using, which I highly like, adds a personal touch. AI features like searchable zoning, image editing, and web page summarization have proven quite handy, although they also nudge users towards using Samsung’s native apps like Gallery and Samsung Internet instead of Google’s alternatives.
Camera Performance
The camera on the S24 Bright and fresh, making it ideal for food photography. This year, the 10x optical zoom lens is gone, as Samsung probably realized not many people were using it to capture distant objects or the moon. They’ve replaced it with a 5x lens, similar to what’s found on the iPhone 15 Pro Max or Pixel 8 Pro, which will likely appeal to more users, though not necessarily to me.
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra continues to impress with each iteration, offering sophisticated features in a premium package. While it may not be for everyone due to its size and sharp edges, it remains a top choice for those seeking a powerful, feature-rich smartphone.
